11/12/2014 - Officials Requirements for YMCA Meets -
YMCA sanctioned meets and national championship meets are conducted in accordance with the USA Swimming technical rules. All other YMCA meets must be conducted in accordance with USA Swimming technical rules in order for the meet and the times achieved therein to be valid for any of the following:
- Qualification for entry into a YMCA sanctioned meet or YMCA national championship meet
- National YMCA Top Ten times
- National YMCA records
- USA Swimming approval of the meet and entry of the times into the SWIMS database
Beginning in September 2013, USA Swimming rules require the use of an Administrative Official for all meets. This requirement, therefore, extends to YMCA meets that could be used as qualifying meets or times from which may be used as qualifying times for YMCA sanctioned and/or national championship competition.
The minimum officials requirements for YMCA meets are:
For all YMCA meets, at least two officials must be YMCA Certified including one certified as a Level II Official who acts as the Meet Referee:
- Dual Meets require at least three (3) officials including a Starter, a Referee and an Administrative Official. The Starter and Referee may also serve as Stroke & Turn judges, if necessary.
- All other meets require at least four (4) officials including a Referee, a Starter (who may also act as a Stroke & Turn judge), a Stroke & Turn judge and an Administrative Official.
- Any YMCA Level II Certified Official can function as the Administrative Official, but not in that role and another deck role (e.g. the Deck Referee cannot also serve as the Admin Official)
- USA Swimming Certified Officials may assist with the officiating at such meets, provided that there are at least two YMCA Certified Officials, one of whom is YMCA Level II certified and acts as the Meet Referee.
A schedule of available YMCA Administrative Officials courses can be found on the Learning and Career Development Center (LCDC) section of the YMCA Exchange website (www.yexchange.org ).
A USA Swimming certified Administrative Official may perform the duties of a YMCA Administrative Official.

1/3/2014 - YMCA History - Did you know that the YMCA Short Course National Championship started in 1923? Did you know that Swimmers swam the 220 Yard freestyle, the 150 Yard Backstroke and the 300 Yard Medley Relay (no fly)? Only 85 swimmers participated in the 1924 championship. In 1930 there were 150 athletes participating in 9 events. NEWS ALERT: NEW CONCUSSION PROTOCOL AT Y NATIONALS
With a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all athletes at YMCA Nationals, YMCA of the USA, effective for the Long Course Swimming Championships, will introduce a new policy and procedure related to concussion incident and management. 9/4/2013 - 2013 YMCA Swimming Leadership Development Camp - Orlando, FL October 24‐27, 2013. The camp this Fall is designed around current high school juniors. The October camp will include educational sessions on leadership & mentoring, communication skills, the college selection process, team building, and goal setting. We will also be having roundtable conversations on topics of interest. In the pool, there will be four training sessions and we will include some social activities as a group.
7/24/2013 - Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving is now online - Y-USA has launched an E-learning version of Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving course, AQ412B. The cost will be $20 for the E-learning course. We will be allowing the live Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving to be run in a classroom until 12/31/2013 in order that you may continue to train your staff. The Trainer level for this course was retired as of May 1st, 2013.

2/23/2013 - Brand Transition of Competitive Sports - To assist Ys in successfully transitioning competitive sports to the new brand, YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) has compiled answers to frequently asked questions that you may integrate into your Y's communications to competitive sports team staff, volunteers and parents.
10/5/2012 - YMCA BRAND TRANSITION -
All YMCAs are expected to transition to the Y's revitalized brand by December 31, 2015. While some YMCAs will take until the deadline to transition, some YMCAs are transitioning at a much faster rate. Transition timing is at the discretion of local YMCAs as long as transition is fully complete by December 31, 2015. Completed transition means that all brand elements of a YMCA have been fully transitioned to the new brand and this includes competitive sports. YMCAs that have not successfully transitioned all brand applications in their YMCA will not pass the brand compliance audit necessary to receive a brand transition certification.
Under our master brand strategy, additional logos or marks cannot be created. All other Y program, event, initiative and team logos created and adopted over the years are considered retired and may no longer be used. The resources below have been created by the national office, in conjunction with local YMCA staff, to assist teams in maintaining their individual identities while adhering to the brand standards.
